Prof. John Samuel (Sam) Faulkner was born in Memphis Tennessee. He obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees in physics from Auburn University. He was awarded a Ph.D. in physics by The Ohio State University. He has published over 86 journal articles in the area of theoretical condensed matter physics. He wrote one book on the theory of alloys and edited another in the same field. He is an Emeritus Professor of Physics at Florida Atlantic University, and the Associate Director of the Center for Biomedical and Materials Physics (CBAMP).

His novel, written under the name "Sam Faulkner" and entitled "The Sparrow," is available as an ebook from Kindle Bookstore (Amazon). It is an action-adventure novel, but the plot-line contains many scientifically accurate references from the fields of physics, cryptology, and computers.

Prof. Faulkner is a Fellow of the American Physical Society as well as the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is profiled in Who's Who in America. He is married with 2 children.
